MSC is issuing a temporary exemption for the use of Arena Powerskin Carbon-Pro swimsuits. IMPORTANT: any masters swimmer who is attempting to set a WORLD RECORD is subject to FINA rules, including suit compliance, i.e. this exemption does NOT apply.

March was a productive month for Canadian swimmers, with Lynn Marshall (CAPS) setting a world record in the 1500m freestyle, and Dan Thompson (AURO) lowering his own world marks in the 50m and 100m butterfly. Congratulations Lynn and Dan!

Dave Wilkin, P.Eng. has been elected President by the Board of Directors of MSC. As a semi-retired executive, he will put his business experience to good use. He joined the Board in May 2012 and is an active member of the governance committee.

The AGM will take place on Friday May 17, 2013 in Ottawa at 6pm, followed by a town hall meeting. Please read the linked documents including the explanation of the proposed bylaws.

MSC is looking for persons committed to the sport of swimming and willing to offer time in the governance of the organization. Nominations for the Board of Directors of MSC must be received by MSC by April 1st, 2013.

On October 4th the MSC board voted to set January 1st, 2010 as the date when new suit rules will come into effect for Masters competitions in Canada.

On August 7/8th Colleen Shields will once again attempt to cross Lake Ontario, this time to try and become not only the oldest woman to swim the lake but also the fastest. She's doing it all for Right to Play, her favourite charity. Here's an update to her profile that was done for MSC in 2006.

Jen Alexander is a marathon swimmer who has lived with Type 1 diabetes (?juvenile diabetes?) for the past 21 years. Last year, she made two attempts at swimming the 33km stretch between Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI.

The 1km challenge is a continuous 1km pool swim that is conducted by members of Masters Swimming Canada with their home swim club, or on their own.

The Masters Swimming Canada Video Library has various titles to choose from and is available for all registered Masters Swimming Canada members.

On December 7th, the MSC board approved a new version of the Swimming Rules portion of the MSC rulebook.

?Not only does swimming slow down the aging process in terms of respiration, muscle mass, bone density, cardiovascular activity and neurological function there?s also evidence to suggest that it increases mental health and even spiritual and social health. Fact is, swimmers lead happier, healthier lives than those who don?t get in the water.?

In January, over thirty swimmers with assorted family members and friends headed for sunny Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuela for a one week Masters swim camp.

There are now three ways to register for 2008 Nationals in Quebec City. Your team can enter using an entries file generated by Hytek Team Manager or Splash, you can submit an individual entry from your MyMsc.ca account, or you can fill out and mail in an entry form.

Sudbury - It's a rare day when all my worlds - swimmer, writer, mother - collide.
I am in a journalist's guise but under that thin garment is the exhausted Master swimmer and mother. I have not been in the pool since helping to organize the Ontario provincial championship three weeks earlier...

At the 2006 AGM in Calgary Masters Swimming Canada transitioned from an appointed board of directors to an elected board. The new board and the director of operations have faced challenges but have made considerable progress in improving the value that MSC offers to its members.

On Sunday Nov 5, the Brown family competed in a four-generation 2000m family relay at the Regina Optimist Dolphins Queen City Swim Challenge. Mary Brown, the great-grandmother, her daughters Marj Walton and Melanie Leverick, Melanie's daughter, Erin Leverick Jennings, now married, and her stepdaughter Chea swam a relay.

Relying on Irish superstition and months of cross training, Colleen Shields, 54, of the Etobicoke Olympium Masters Aquatic Club (EOMAC) completed the 52-kilometre-long crossing of Lake Ontario in 16 hours 30 minutes on August 12 and 13.

Masters Swimming is an adult program designed to encourage fitness through swimming.
