Lynn Marshall to be inducted into IMSHOF!
It's likely no big surprise to anyone familiar with Lynn Marshall's career as a Masters swimmer but she has now been officially selected for induction into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame. Congratulations Lynn!

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 12. THE International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) is proud to announce its class of inductees for 2011. The group of seven outstanding individuals will be inducted at the annual ceremony to be held Friday evening, September 16th, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, Jacksonville, Florida, in conjunction with the United States Aquatic Sports Convention.
The prestigious IMSHOF class of 2011 includes four swimmers, two divers and one contributor from four different countries: the USA, Canada, Norway and Australia.
Since 1986 Lynn Marshall, of Canada, has been among the world's Top 10 Masters swimmers every year and has set five long course and 23 short course FINA Masters World Records.
Lynn becomes the second Canadian Masters swimmer to be inducted into the IMSHOF, and is already a member of the Masters Swimming Canada Hall of Excellence. Earlier this spring we posted an interview with Lynn.

Ten Reasons to Attend CMSC Every Year
Keeps me motivated to train on cold winter mornings.
Traveling to different locations every year and appreciating all the work host clubs do to make it all happen.
Watching in awe of the 75+ age groups and hoping that will be me some day.
Planning next year and strategizing how to go that little bit faster. This year it is going to be weight training and investing in a Blue Seventy suit because they look so cool!!
The entertainment of putting on our race suits. That is a warm –up in itself!!
Seeing the smile on the faces of fellow competitors that have taken 30 seconds off their 200 free time or 3 tenths or only added 3 seconds on to their time. The sense of accomplishment is there regardless of speed or age.
Seeing all the club paraphernalia. T-shirts, suits, caps, tattoos. “Work it, Own it, Will it”. LOVE IT!
Appreciating that only a swimmer can appreciate hanging about a pool deck for 10 hours for two events.
Convincing other team members how fun it is so next year we will have enough swimmers for a relay.
Thanking Ginny Smith (Yarmouth Y Whitecaps), my first coach over 35 years ago. Wow, does not seem that long ago! Ginny was the one that instilled the love of this great sport in me and the importance of kick sets and stroke drills. Thanks Gin!

Swim coach a steadying presence on deck for 45 years
Technosport threw a surprise party for their coach, Duane Jones, on the occasion of his 45th year of coaching! The Ottawa Citizen featured an article on Duane and the club: "Swim coach a steadying presence on deck for 45 years"

Coaches Wanted for Masters Swim Camp on Margarita Island, Venezuela
Attention: Masters Swimming Coaches From Across Canada
For the past five years a swim camp for masters swimmers has been organized on Margarita Island in Venezuela. The camps are currently organized by Kelvin Landolt of Oannes Athletics and Kelvin is currently looking for coaches to participate in this years camps.

Wendy Buckner Remembrance
Wendy Buckner, who swam with Technosport, passed away suddenly on June 19th:
Wendy Louise Buckner, Dec. 16, 1959 - June 19, 2010Suddenly, in her 51st year, during a visit to her brother Brent in Grand Cayman, on Saturday, June 19th, 2010. Beloved daughter of Charles and Christine Buckner, sister of Brent, niece of Anne Tetley, and cousin of Paul and Kevin Tetley. Niece of Tom Laite, cousin of Neil, Suzanne, Lenora and Jamie. Wendy will be sadly missed by both her relatives plus her many, many friends. A memorial celebration of Wendy's life will be held at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Wednesday, June 30th, 2010. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until Words of Remembrance at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the United Way, Good Companions, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I hope you notice the deadline to entry the Championships later this year.
FINA, the Swedish Swimming Federation and the hosting cities remind you that on May 22 the registration is closing.
We all look forward seeing you on the West coast of Sweden, the beautiful summer 2010. We hope to have the best organized Championships ever and be remembered as "the friendly World Masters Championships in 2010".

Jock Noble 1922 - 2009
A pioneer of masters swimming in BC, Jock Noble, left us this past December in his 87th year. As a young man, Jock was a member of the British SAS and was awarded many decorations for his valor during the Second World War, serving behind the lines in both North Africa and France. After the war and a stint as a London bobby, Jock and his family moved to Canada where he became a member of the Canadian military and was posted to Edmonton. In Edmonton, he became involved in swimming when the two volunteer coaches of his children's swim team both moved away at the same time. After being posted to Victoria, he carried on coaching with the Juan de Fuca Coho Swim Club. As many do, Jock decided to stay in Victoria when he retired from the military and carried on coaching the Coho club. Realizing most swimmers after age 19 did not have an organized program available for them to be able to carry on swimming and competing, he founded the Victoria Masters Swim Club and encouraged the formation of other clubs on the Island. For many years he was the coach and mentor of VMSC. Jock also created the Victoria Crystal Silver Streaks with the focus on the older swimmers for whom evening practices were not ideal. Jock stepped down from coaching the Streaks a few years ago. Many swimmers who joined masters because of Jock's encouragement and were coached by him, are still swimming, competing and setting records. VCSS is one of Jock's legacies and the strength of masters swimming in BC is a reflection of Jock's vision and contributions to our sport.

WRW funds young torch relay runners
This news was received from Carole Gair, coach of White Rock Wave:
White Rock WAVE masters swim, a club of about 35 members have donated over $700 to buy the torches that will be carried by two brothers whose 9 year old sister passed away from liver cancer on Jan.11, 2010. When the team heard another master swimmer, Kim (Austin) Smith had arranged through the torch relay people to fit the two boys into the schedule in Ft. Langley on Jan. 8 to honour their sister, an email went out to the WAVE members to help pay the $800 cost of the torches as a memento for the brothers. Within one week the club donated nearly the total amount.
